VELODROME

The Pringle. Siberian pine, 42° walls and a roof that roars.

The home of British track cycling. Fast boards, world records.

Vélodrome André-Pétrieux. Open sky, flat grey concrete and the old brick showers behind the finish.

Four kilometres solo. Pace it or pop.

Five rivals, first over the line wins. Sit on a wheel to save energy.

Elimination: the last rider over the line goes out. One neutral lap, then the bell rings and the last rider over the line goes out — every lap — until two are left.

Three laps locked in behind the motor pacer, no passing. The derny peels off with two and a half to go and it's a drag race.

Ride your chosen structured workout on the boards. Training rules: ride data on.

Open track, no structure. A fast bunch, a tempo pair and a few solo riders — join a group, sit on a wheel or ride alone.

Two-line through-and-off: the back rider on the outside drops to the inside, rides through to the front and swings up onto the front of the outside line. Hold the wheels and take your turn.

Coach-run club night: pairs on the blue, drop-downs, whistle through-and-off, then a scratch race on the lap board.
